Japanese Tea Party

Charlie was turning 8 and wanted a tea party.
Well, we decided to make it something special.

Unused flower pot, twigs, tissue papper and river rocks.
This imitation cherry blossom tree is the perfect center piece for the Japanese theme.

We made paper lanterns.

I also went to the thrift store and bought colorful sheets.
I cut them up and found a simple kimono pattern.

When the girls arrived, they put on kimonos and got a makeover.
Makeover consisted of a bun with cheap chopsticks
                                  stuck through the hair.
We also did Geisha girl makeup....over the top.

As one of the party activities/craft the girls made custom fans.
Prior to the party I painted and glued 4 popsicle sticks together and  cut out paper shapes. The girls decorated the the shapes then I glued
them to the sticks.I looked up all of there names in Japanese and printed up sheets with japanese translations.

The sushi was a sweat treat too.I made a batch of rice crispy treats, which takes the place of the rice. We rolled up various chewy candies and also used fruit roll ups in place of the seaweed wraps. These were a big hit.

I bought the cups and the tea pot from a thrift shop.
We used a table with unfolded legs and sat on the floor. The girls loved every second of it. After the "ceremony" we had a Dance party with the adults!
